We have located no CIO labor journal or other records listing all the unions affiliated with the CIO’s Industrial Union Council. The AFL’s Labor News does mention such local CIO unions as the auto workers (UAW), the communication workers (CWA), the electrical workers (UE/IUE), the lithographers, the steelworkers (USWA), the textile workers and, of course, the clothing workers (ACWA — Amalgamated Clothing Workers of America), Rochester’s most powerful union during
these years:

  • ACWA Lo. 202 (Italian coat makers)
  • ACWA Lo. 203 (Lithuanian
    coat makers)
  • ACWA Lo. 204 (women’s local)
  • ACWA Lo. 205 (cutters & trimmers)

  • ACWA Lo. 227 (pants &
    vest makers)
  • ACWA Lo. 230 (spongers, clerks)
